Gascoigne Estate, London borough of Barking and Dagenham. Currently undergoing demolition. Here's some information about the ‘Regeneration’ and Change of name

I have a personal connection to the estate as I lived there in the mid-late 1980s, also both my step brother and step sister lived there in the 80s and 90s, some of my nephews grow up there. If I’m honest - apart from the thrill of high-rise living: the amazing views over, what was even then, the post-industrial landscape of east London, the Thames Estuary, Barking Creek, Barking Barrier, the former Barking Gas works (which was at the time Becton Ski Slop) and the A13 - I didn’t enjoy living there much as even in the 1980s I felt that the estate was already subject to managed decline and had become one of the most infamous ‘troubled’ estates in London. Even so I’m sad to see it go as it was home to roughly 12,452 people, most of whom were/are council tenants.
